Autry Museum of the American West

The Friends of the Thousand Oaks Library will hold a Cultural Bus Trip to the Autry Museum of the American West on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Transportation, driver’s gratuity, admission and a docent-led tour are included in a special low price of $33.00 for members of the Friends and $38.00 for non-members.

The trip is offered in conjunction with the One City, One Book program, which this year features News of the World. A novel set in post-Civil War Texas, the book tells the story of 71-year-old Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd and his unlikely ward, a 10-year-old girl rescued by the U.S. Army from Kiowa Indian capture. A richly detailed historical narrative of the American west in a time of change and upheaval, the book depicts many of the landscapes and events displayed at the Autry Museum.

The Autry features ongoing exhibits such as the Cowboy Gallery, Art of the West, and the Colt Revolver in the American West. Current exhibitions include La Raza and Standing Rock: Art and Solidarity. Many more exhibits round out the collection, providing a full day of museum browsing. See more about the exhibits here: https://theautry.org/exhibitions.

The bus will depart from the Grant R Brimhall Library at 1401 E Janss Road, Thousand Oaks at 9:15 am and will return at approximately 5:00 pm. Lunch can be purchased onsite at the Golden Spur Cafe. Call Carol at 805-480-1450 for information and reservations.
