Thanks to everyone who turned out to support the Friends’ Back to School Used Book Sale! The monies raised by these sales support the programs, materials, and technology that the library provides for the community. We couldn’t do it without you, and you showed up in droves!

As always, members of the Friends of the Library received early preview entrance at 9:30, and for this special occasion, early entrance was also extended to educators. By 9:30, a long line of excited shoppers extended out the library door and onto the sidewalk. When the doors opened, the sight of thousands of high-quality books, DVDs, CDs, gifts, puzzles, and stuffed animals and more inspired customers to dive right in, piling their finds into the bags provided.

All day long, volunteers helped customers find the books, passed out bags, ran the checkout stations, answered questions, restocked the rapidly emptying book displays, and chatted with our customers. Customers kept coming in all day long, leaving with full bags and big smiles; teachers took home bags of materials for their classroom libraries, parents took home bags of books for home libraries, and all kinds of people took home armloads of their favorite books, music, and DVDs. We love readers, they love our books, and we all love our library—it was a great day!

In October, we’ll be moving to more frequent, smaller flash sales in both libraries, so keep an eye out for those. One of the first flash sales will be quilting and craft books, in the Newbury Park Library, to coincide with the quilt show in the Community Art Gallery. Tell all your crafting friends!

We are grateful to the library for providing us the space for the sale and the invaluable assistance of the library staff, and of course as always, for the help of our tireless volunteers, a list of which appears below. And to our customers, for supporting the Friends and helping us support the library. Remember, we always have a fabulous selection of books at amazing prices in the Daily Sales areas of both libraries—shop early, shop often, and help us #keepthelibraryawesome!
